y'all have chistmas?

we had our mini-christmas cocktail party which was very "nice". everyone got to admire our portly christmas tree and drink spiked egg nog and eat hors d'oeuvers and listen to al green and patsy cline while playing cranium. oh and thanks to damon lynn (thats his middle name) for choosing to clean his apartment over participating in a christmas-spirited shindig just around the corner from him.

are you smarter than a 2 year old?

apparently i am not that smart. for example, i have to spell check my blog or else about 68% of these words would be mis-spelled.
i always thought that i knew things about this and that a little bit of this and a little bit of that.
well i guess i don't. i can't name 3 countries that border Germany, and I don't know my pre 1950's American presidents, i don't know 4 battles from the Civil War, i can never win a game of Connect 4 or Uno. I also thought that a Warewolf was the long name for a Regular Wolf. And forget math or science, i mean obviously i don't know anything about those.
so what do i know? i know that the inside, leathery part of a bats wing is called the "membrane" (thanks to the 7 year old I babysit, George Newberry). I know a little bit of French (mais oui!). I know that if you cross the street when you have a red hand you will probably get hit by a car. i know that in order for a caterpillar to become a butterfly it has to weave a cocoon. i know the proper use of your you're there their then than. i know how to cook a couple things, i know which cupcakes to order at sugar sweet sunshine, i know how to make little kids laugh and i know a lot about Jackie O and Andy Warhol and that's about it.
Awesome Possum.

and i thought i was bored

just when i thought i was the one getting so bored with people and places and things (nouns, mostly) i saw a woman on the subway this morning reading:

A PHONE BOOK

so casually like it was totally normal to be reading a phone book on the subway.

i would have taken a picture with my Not iphone/Blackberry but that would have been Pretty Rude and i am really trying to have Good Behaviour lately.

seriously, i didn't know people even still owned phone books. maybe i will start to get into those too.

things i want to get into

-using pay phones (i know everyone says they are dirty but so is the air that you breathe, plus you can use them underground in the subway and last time i checked even your really cool i-phone couldn't do that)

- Mix Tapes (not only do they look cool but i am pretty sure that they sound cool too)

and in that case

-walkmans (who even thought of that name? walkmans????)

-type writers (if I'm going to send text mexs all day i might ask well start typing on a type writer and sending snail mail. that never went out of style as far as i am concerned)

rememememebering

i was just remememebering that today when i was shopping in the humid disgusting weather in soho and i was in kate's paperie that the girl at the check out counter (who, btw by the way had a MUSTACHE, gross) kept saying "thank you" to me for every little thing. like when i brought my stuff up and put it on the counter she was thanking me. then she gave me the total and i said "ok" and she proceeded to thank me again. and again. i gave her my card "thank you, thank you", i signed the slip "oh thank you miss, thank you" she offered me a large bag and i said "fine" "thank you, thank you" oh and of course to top it all off "thank you, have a nice night, thank you".
wow. i do beleive in manners, but seriously the line has to be drawn SOMEWHERE>
LOL LOLearcoaster ( i feel i am entitled to these words bc now i have blog) i was also remememebering when i was on the subway and it was crowded of course, and i stepped on this girls foot and i turned around to say sorry she said "OUCH OUCH that hurt" so loud and for some reason i thought it was hilarious and couldn't stop laughing. bad manners and Bad Behaviour. oopps. xoxo

newspapers

i think i want to start getting into subscribing/reading newpapers. so i have narrowed it down to The Post and The Daily News (because the Beastie Boys rap about it, naturally- "Read it in the Post and the Daily News, Listen everybody lets show improve.")

i have a FANTASY to go down early in the morning (it would be interesting to see if i can get up "early") and go down-stairs in my bathrobe with a cup of tea and pick up the paper to read at the kitchen table while eating toast and eggs with a cute little dog sitting on my lap.

i don't know how to decide which one though. perhaps i will buy each one for a week straight and see which is more appealing. but its really all about the FANTASY, of course. xoxo

my Fav subway line

my favourite subway line is the 4, 5, 6 line and i will proceed to explain why:

1. its an EAST SIDE LINE. i only stay on the east side (upper east side, lower east side, soho). I dont believe in the west side. the 456 goes all the way up and down the east side.

2. its always a new subway train. it has that soothing mans voice who makes announcements.

3. its fast. (well most of the time.)

4. it has handsome business men who work on the east side on it a lot. everyone loves a good handsome business man in a suit with a brief case and a blackberry.
5. its subway colour is GREEN which of course is my most favourite colour.

i think thats plenty reasons.
so of course i can't stop thinking about Home Depot (and isn't it so obvious why???) and i was just rememememebering that when i was there i bought a standing oscillating fan (which was such a great deal) and on the way out they have this awesome little booth where people of not so high mental value (aka down syndrome) help you make handles on your bag so its easier to carry through the subway therefore making it easier to bump people with and easier to get through the turnstile with out having to do a 3-move entry. it was so awesome.
the people working there are so super nice too. esp the DS ones, of course.
man i just cant stop thinking abt HD.

je ne sais pas

i dont know how i feel about starting a blog. this is one of those things that you make fun of other nerds for doing such as LOL and LOLercoaster and TTYL and other things of the sort.

i really just started this mostly so i could talk about Home Depot for a hot second. i went there probably about a week before i left for italy first for work and then on the way to the subway because i needed to pick up some odds and ends. i went to the one on 59th st and 3rd ave.

this was a Life Changing experience. i was mesmerized to say the least. when i normally think of HD i think of chains and ropes and hammers and orange aprons. but it goes so beyond that.

they have plants and pots and fans and grills and blinds and rugs and METHOD PRODUCTS oh man the list goes on.
everyone needs to go. if you want to come with me some day to share the life changing experience, just call and i can put it in my filofax.

i think i will make HD a weekly stop along with pad thai and sugar sweet sunshine cupcakes.

xoxo
